What is the difference between marketing and direct marketing?

The aim of marketing is to adapt all actions within a company or organization to the needs and demands of the customer and the market. This includes, among other things, the development of new products and services and their expansion or revision, price setting, communication policy in the form of traditional advertising, direct advertising, sponsoring, PR and sales.
Direct marketing is therefore only a sub-area of marketing that is very specifically limited to a precisely defined target group. Direct marketing measures that are aimed directly at customers or potential new customers, such as personalized direct mails, attempt to obtain a response from the customer. Mail order catalogs, competitions in newspapers and call center calls are also very common.
