Please tell us about your professional background.

My name is Alessandro Mattarel and, as Head of School at IBZ, I am responsible for the areas of mechanical engineering, metal construction and systems engineering. After my apprenticeship as a mechanical draughtsman, I completed further training in mechanical engineering and technical business management. I have gained professional experience in project management, purchasing and as a sales representative in technical sales. I have been able to use my technical background in adult education for a good three years. I accompany students and technical instructors through the HF system technician courses. My valued area of responsibility at IBZ is comprehensive, exciting and challenging. The collaboration with my colleagues in the education sector is enriching and we support each other. My committed students give me great pleasure in my day-to-day work and I enjoy supporting them in their personal development.

What are the IBZ's goals for systems engineering training?

IBZ has over 75 years of experience in technical further education. We offer numerous qualified technical courses as a federally recognized higher technical college. This includes the Techniker HF Systemtechnik. The prospective system technicians are prepared in the best possible way for their future work in automation and we offer a high level of practical relevance during their part-time studies.

Which courses can be attended in the field of systems engineering at the IBZ training institute?

In this area, the IBZ offers the Dipl. Techniker/in HF Systemtechnik course with a specialization in automation. In addition to the system technician training, the courses Dipl. Techniker/in HF Maschinenbau, Dipl. Techniker/in HF Kunststofftechnik and Metallbau-Werkstatt- und Montageleiter/in mit eidg. Fachausweis are also offered in mechanical engineering.

What requirements must be met to train as a systems technician HF?

The HF degree course in systems engineering is aimed at anyone who works in the mechanical engineering industry (MEM sector) and would like to develop technical systems in the future using mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and IT. Admission is open to people who have a Federal Certificate of Competence (EFZ) and professional experience in the mechanical, electrical and metal industries. Good German language skills (at least B2 level), everyday knowledge of Office programs and very good mathematical skills are also required for the systems technician apprenticeship. For the latter, we recommend attending a preliminary course in mathematics.

What career prospects do students have after completing the Systems Engineering HF degree?

As a qualified systems engineering technician, you can use the comprehensive specialist knowledge, leadership skills and business management know-how you have acquired to take on management tasks in the development of systems engineering components and assemblies. In IT or service companies, a managerial role in automation as a project manager or team leader is possible. In the job market, systems engineers are sought-after specialists who not only have the necessary specialist knowledge, but also have practical experience, think entrepreneurially and act responsibly. When engineering systems, systems engineers take into account the wishes and needs of the customer, the technical requirements and the environmental conditions of the application. We then offer additional postgraduate training at the IBZ in mechanical engineering or further CAS or MAS courses in cooperation with the Kalaidos University of Applied Sciences.
