What does the everyday working life of managers with management training look like?

Prerequisites for admission to the Management (Cert.) courses

Most schools do not require any specific prerequisites for admission to a certificate course in management. The following prerequisites have proven to be helpful:

• Completed basic education
• Some professional experience
• Basic knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping
• Good knowledge of German
• Basic computer skills

Costs and financing of further training

The costs vary slightly depending on the provider and duration of the course. On average, the following costs can be expected:

Course fees: approx. CHF 7,500

Module examinations SVF: CHF 900

Since January 1, 2018, preparatory courses for federal professional examinations have been financially supported by the federal government. Graduates of these courses who later go on to obtain the federal certificate as a "management specialist" will receive up to 50% of the course costs paid back from the federal government after taking the federal examination.

Course duration, number of lessons and learning effort

The course takes about 2 semesters while working. Lessons usually take place two evenings a week or one afternoon/evening or on Saturdays. There are various teaching models.

On average, 6 school hours per week have to be completed. The additional learning effort (homework) amounts to a further four hours per week.

How do I graduate?

The 5 module examinations must be passed in order to obtain the SVF Certificate in Leadership:

• Business administration
• Accounting
• Personnel management
• Process management
• Project management

Here are some general success factors on the way to a new training qualification:

• Interest in the topic and active participation in class
• Regular preparation and follow-up of the lesson material at home
• Committed cooperation in group work, case studies etc.
• Participation in learning groups for regular exchange
• Practise exam situations, e.g. by working on previous exam tasks

Diploma and title:

Successful graduates receive the Management SVF certificate (Swiss Association for Management Training)
