Daniel Priore, Head of Logistics and Supply Chain at Tobler Haustechnik AG

Daniel Priore: A born lecturer

Daniel Priore

Daniel Priore has "grown into logistics over time". When he took up his position as Head of Purchasing at Mars, he came to logistics. He had previously worked in sales. He then moved to Tobler Haustechnik AG in 2008, where he took over as Head of Logistics and Supply Chain in 2013. Daniel Priore has continued his education along the way. Since 2002, he has been able to call himself a logistics specialist with a federal certificate, and since 2004 he has also been a logistics manager with a federal diploma. Daniel Priore saw the two courses as a complete package from the outset.

At the start of the course, Daniel Priore already knew exactly why he was sitting in this classroom. Before the course had even really started, a lecturer asked him about his goals during the first break. Daniel Priore replied: "To be at the front as a lecturer". Seven years later, he has achieved this goal. One of them was to work as an examination expert. Daniel Priore has been teaching procurement logistics at GS1 Switzerland since 2008. He really comes into his own as a lecturer and sees himself as a service provider to his participants. He does not offer frontal teaching, but makes terms such as e-market tangible.

Philippe Honegger, Head of Distribution Center Schmitten, Denner AG

Philippe Honegger: Further training broadens your horizons

Philippe Honegger

Philippe Honegger is now firmly rooted in logistics, having originally trained as a bricklayer. He then hired on as a courier driver and had arrived in logistics. This was followed by two more positions as transport dispatcher and warehouse and forwarding manager before he moved to Denner. Philippe Honegger has now been working in logistics for over 20 years. His employer Denner gives Philippe Honegger plenty of scope for development. In 2009, he initially joined the Schmitten distribution center as warehouse manager before taking over its management in October 2013. The job as head of the distribution center was also the deciding factor in his decision to train as a logistics manager. When it was clear that this position would be advertised, he decided to do the training. The training has helped him a lot in his current job. Philipp Honegger also appeals to others: "Never stop educating yourself. It broadens your horizons."

Success with the learning group
He particularly appreciated the learning group on the GS1 Switzerland course. Previously, he was a loner when it came to learning, but he benefited greatly from the teaching group. Everyone came from different areas. He received a lot of good input from different perspectives. The group of four met once every two weeks. Philippe Honegger was successful in his first attempt and passed the demanding final exam. He is convinced that the learning group contributed significantly to his success.

Gian-Marco Caggia, Head of Purchasing, Supply Chain and Production and Member of the Executive Board of Swiss Federal Railways SBB Infrastructure

Gian-Marco Caggia: Growing with every training course

Gian-Marco Caggia

Gian-Marco Caggia began his career in the family business, which manufactured cleaning and care products. He completed a two-year business school alongside his job. Gian-Marco Caggia's responsibilities in the family business included product distribution. A lot of logistical improvements could be made there. He later focused entirely on logistics and worked for the courier service UPS for ten years. As Operations Manager, he was often on the road. However, the job proved to be unsuitable for a family. When his wife was expecting their first child, he had to change his life. In 2001, he found working conditions at Swiss Post that allowed him to work regular hours. By then, he had acquired a lot of practical logistics knowledge and decided to take a diploma course to become a logistics manager.

Allow time after further training
His training as a qualified logistics manager has helped him to get to where he is today. After all, this qualification was a prerequisite for climbing the next rung on the career ladder. In 2007, Gian-Marco Caggia moved to SBB AG as Head of Logistics and Baggage, where he took over as Head of the Services and Quality Management department three years later. From 2012 to the end of 2016, Gian-Marco Caggia was Head of Infrastructure Purchasing. Today, as a member of the Executive Board of SBB Infrastructure, he is responsible for the entire supply chain in addition to purchasing. He advises younger professionals to give themselves enough time after further training to apply the knowledge they have acquired in their day-to-day work.

Natalie Lehmann, sales coordinator with a federal certificate, vocational trainer, practical trainer, in training to become a federally certified logistics manager

Natalie Lehmann: Manager Proficenter Retail

Natalie LehmannToday, Natalie Lehmann is responsible for around 140 employees as Manager Proficenter Retail at Fiege Logistik (Schweiz) AG in the Oftringen logistics center. The fact that she has made it this far up the career ladder is due not only to her ambition, flexibility and courage to keep trying new things, but also to the continuous further training that has helped her to progress step by step since completing her commercial apprenticeship.

Shortly after completing her apprenticeship, things looked a little different when she was unable to find an office job straight away and, after passing her truck test, secured her income in a semi-trailer truck across Europe. However, just six months later she was able to start work at an automation solutions company, where she stayed for four years until, after a year as a secretary and marketing manager at a dog training school, she took up a position in internal sales at Hasbro Schweiz AG. Six months later, she had already taken over the Planning, Logistics, Sox Coordinator and Business Analysis departments and was training to become a sales coordinator with a federal certificate. Natalie Lehmann found a new challenge as Head of Administration at Planzer Transport AG in Villmergen, where she took over the management of the customer service center and, three years later, also the management of the bonded warehouse.

With the in-depth customs knowledge she had acquired, she took up a new position at Fiege Logistik in Oftringen a few years later, where she is in charge of the open customs warehouse and, as Manager Proficenter Retail, is responsible for 20 commercial and 120 industrial employees. Today, Lehmann also works as a vocational trainer for logistics apprentices and as a practical trainer for apprentices in the commercial sector.

Further training to become a certified logistics manager
In 2016, Natalie Lehmann decided to take on a new challenge and began training to become a federally certified logistics manager at GS1 Switzerland, which she will complete at the end of 2018. However, she is already benefiting from the knowledge and expertise gained there, particularly in the areas of leadership and supply chain management (SCM), which she can put into practice every day in her work as a manager and in providing optimal support for her customers' SCM. She is eagerly awaiting the content of the upcoming subjects, such as distribution logistics, production logistics, warehouse logistics and environmental management, and is very grateful to her employer for giving her this opportunity.

Project manager for racking systems, in training to become a federally certified logistics manager

Patrick Rudin: A growing understanding of complex interrelationships

Patrick RudinJust five years after completing his commercial apprenticeship with a vocational baccalaureate, Patrick Rudin decided to undertake further training to prepare him for the higher professional examination (HFP) to become a federally certified logistics manager. He is tireless in his search for new challenges, which led him directly after his apprenticeship, first as a racking systems specialist in the logistics systems division and three years later as a project manager for racking systems. He is still in this position today and enjoys the diversity and variety of his work. From the initial meeting with the customer, to inspecting the local conditions, creating different layout variants, checking feasibility, preparing quotations and project costing, negotiating orders, ordering materials and organizing assembly, right through to final acceptance by the customer, all the threads come together in his hands.

Applicable in everyday working life
In order to become a competent contact for his customers beyond shelf planning, Patrick Rudin decided in 2016 to attend further training at GS1 to become a federally certified logistics manager, which he has not yet completed. Nevertheless, he can already see the great benefits of this course, which has enabled him to understand workflows, processes and even complex interrelationships that he did not previously see or know. Rudin can already apply the skills taught in the "Leadership", "Project Management" and "Corporate Management" modules in his day-to-day work. After completing the exam, he would like to be able to develop logistics concepts in their entirety and does not rule out further training and further education in logistics in the future.
