Agile Coach (Cert.): Because innovation is everything in business

As an agile coach, you accompany companies and teams on their path to greater agility, i.e. adaptability in their actions and processes. You support them in integrating agile values, such as openness and the courage to change. You will work with specific agile methods, such as Scrum, and advise your customers on their implementation. There are various levels of training and further education to become an agile coach: as a certificate course, postgraduate course or CAS.

Agile Coach: Leading companies and teams to greater agility

Production and work processes have changed significantly since digitalization. The market is characterized by continuous but also spontaneous changes and uncertainties. In such a VUCA world (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity), it is of central importance for a company to have agile processes, structures, values and methods such as Scrum, Kanban or design thinking. They allow a company to react quickly to new events and influences and to deal with changing, complex requirements and goals in a value-adding manner. Only when customer needs are recognized promptly and responded to quickly can a company successfully hold its own against the competition in rapidly changing market environments and market requirements. This is where the Agile Coach comes in. He looks at the status quo of a company, observes, reflects and then accompanies it through the agile transformation.
In other words, the agile coach supports companies or teams on their way to aligning their processes and structures or business models with agile principles and values. The agile coach does not provide ready-made solutions to the problem, but accompanies his clients in the role of coach, trainer and mentor on their path to self-solution.
In training or further training to become an agile coach, participants are taught specialist skills, knowledge and abilities relating to agile transformation. Among other things, you will learn about the agile working methods and frameworks Scrum, Kanban and Design Thinking. You will learn how to use and apply agile elements such as sprints and their events such as planning, daily, review and retrospective according to the situation.

Ist die Rede von agilen Werten wird meistens auf das Agile Manifest aus dem Jahr 2001 verwiesen.

Das agile Manifest (ursprünglich Manifesto for Agile Software Development, respektive Agile Manifesto) beschreibt agile Werte und Verhaltensregeln agiler Teams und gilt als Meilenstein in der modernen agilen Bewegung. Daran beteiligt waren 17 renommierte Softwareentwickler, wie zum Beispiel Jeff Sutherland oder Ken Schwaber. Obwohl das agile Manifest sich auf Teams für die Softwareentwicklung referenzierte, kann es auch für Kontexte ausserhalb der Informatik als Anhaltspunkt fungieren.

Das agile Manifest baut auf vier Leitsätzen auf, die wie folgt lauten:

  1. Individuen und Interaktionen sind wichtiger als Prozesse und Werkzeuge
  2. Funktionierende Software ist wichtiger als eine umfassende Dokumentation
  3. Zusammenarbeit mit dem Kunden ist wichtiger als Vertragsverhandlung
  4. Reagieren auf Veränderung ist wichtiger als das Befolgen eines Plans.

Daraus folgen zwölf agile Prinzipien. Eine Auswahl davon lautet folgendermassen:

  • Unsere höchste Priorität liegt darin, den Kunden anhand früher und kontinuierlicher Auslieferung eine wertvolle Software zu liefern und sie damit zufriedenzustellen
  • Auch Änderungen in einer späten Entwicklungsphase sind willkommen.
  • Während des gesamten Prozesses müssen Entwickler und Fachexperten eng zusammenarbeiten
  • usw.

Das Agile Manifest sollte nicht als Checkliste aufgefasst werden, womit Veränderungen in Handumdrehen umgesetzt werden könnten. Vielmehr ist es als eine Art Verhaltenskodex zu betrachten, anhand dessen die eigenen Handlungen reflektiert und entlang agiler Werte neu ausgerichtet werden können.

Einen Rahmen für die konkrete Umsetzung agiler Werte bieten die verschiedenen agilen Methoden wie Scrum, Kanban oder Design Thinking, um an dieser Stelle die bekanntesten zu nennen.

  • Understanding and being able to reflect on New Work and the management system required for it
  • Get to know a diverse toolbox with agile methods
  • Experience the use of agility in a playful way
  • Being able to design, accompany and support agile transformations
  • Knowing the success factors and obstacles of agile transformation
  • Take responsibility in development projects and participate as an agile coach or in agile projects
  • Develop personal, social and methodological skills

Scrum ist neben Kanban oder Design Thinking wohl eine der bekanntesten agilen Methoden (auch Frameworks genannt) für agile Produktentwicklung und Projektmanagement. Obwohl Scrum, wie die meisten agilen Methoden, aus der Softwareentwicklung stammt, erfreut es sich auch in Nicht-Softwareprojekten zunehmender Bekanntheit und Beliebtheit.

Gegründet wurde Scrum im Jahr 1995 von Jeff Sutherland und Ken Schwaber, die auch beim Verfassen des agilen Manifest massgeblich daran beteiligt waren.

Scrum liefert ein spezifisches Rahmenwerk für die Zusammenarbeit von Teams entlang agiler Werte und Prinzipien. Es wird dabei kontinuierlich weiterentwickelt und im aktuellen Scrum Guide festgehalten.

Die in Scrum klar definierten Arbeitsprozesse beinhalten unter anderem Rollen und Aktivitäten. Zu den Rollen gehören der Product Owner, Entwickler und Scrum Master.

Die Scrum Meetings, respektive eben Scrum Aktivitäten zeichnen sich vor allem durch ihren iterativen, also wiederholenden Charakter aus. Dieser wiederholende Vorgang erlaubt eine rasche Anpassung in der Produktentwicklung, was hinsichtlich der Wettbewerbs- und Konkurrenzfähigkeit einen grossen Vorteil bietet. Zu den Scrum Aktivitäten zählen: Sprint, Planning, Daily, Review, Retro und Refinement.

Dies ist für den Agile Coach und seine Funktion als Berater, Unterstützer und Begleiter von grundlegendem Wert.

Explizite Branchen- und Berufskenntnisse werden keine vorausgesetzt.

Agile Coach Certification (Agile Coach Certified) means that the certificate meets the requirements and quality standards of international certification organizations. These are, for example

There are the following certifications with specialization in Agile Coaching, which are federally regulated and conclude with the school's own certificate:

An agile coach is a person who supports organizations in becoming adaptable and self-learning. So not only does he change processes himself, but the organization should also be able to change processes independently if necessary. In addition to the processes, however, the values, beliefs, skills and knowledge of the individual also change.

Wenn die Rede von Agility ist, so sind die Begriffe Agile Coach und Scrum Master meistens nicht weit entfernt. Häufig werden diese zwei miteinander verglichen oder zumindest zusammen erwähnt.

Der Scrum Master ist dabei eine klar definierte Rolle in Scrum – der wohl bekanntesten agilen Methode. Er hat unter anderem die Verantwortung dafür, dass die Scrum-Regeln von allen Beteiligten eingehalten werden, womit er sein Team zu Höchstleistungen führt. Ein Scrum Master managed sein Team unter Einhaltung agiler Werte, Prinzipien und Praktiken.

Der Agile Coach bedient sich zwar ebenfalls der agilen Scrum-Methode, im Gegensatz zum Scrum Master ist er aber oft mehreren Teams zugeordnet, respektive bei seiner Arbeit auf das ganze Unternehmen fokussiert. Er nimmt also eine Art Aussenperspektive ein.
