Which modules must be completed for admission to the Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE) to become a qualified art therapist?

All those interested in taking the Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE) to become a qualified art therapist specializing in design and painting therapy or another specialization* must provide proof of having passed all the required modules. These can be completed in a corresponding preparatory course and are:

  • Module 1: Technical basis I (consisting of basic medical knowledge)
  • Module 2: Subject basis II (consisting of sociology and psychology, basics of psychology, mental hygiene, salutogenesis, special education, social pedagogy and pedagogy)
  • Module 3: Artistic skills in the subject area
  • Module 4: Art therapy in the specialist field (consisting of anamnesis, documentation, diagnostics, extension of methods, self-awareness, learning therapy, professional ethics and therapeutic principles)
  • Module 5: Proof of internship in the subject area
  • Module 6: Project in the subject area (case study)
  • Module 7: Professional role (consisting of business management, organization, healthcare, social services, standards and quality assurance)
