What content is taught during the Qi Gong training?

This cannot be said to be universally valid, as each school determines the content independently. This means that the learning content (or focus) can differ from provider to provider.

Nevertheless, the topics covered are similar. The following areas are usually covered in a Qi Gong course:

  • Basics of Qi Gong: e.g. history and origin, difference between Qi Gong, Tai Chi, meditation
  • Bodywork and forms of movement: including basic exercises (Ba Duan Jin, play of the 5 animals etc.), slow, flowing movements to regulate Qi, posture training, strengthening the spine, joints and organs
  • Breathing and energy exercises: e.g. breath awareness, diaphragmatic breathing, linking movement and breathing rhythm, exercises for directing Qi, collecting Qi and strengthening Qi.
  • Mental training and meditation: mindfulness and presence in the body, introduction to silent Qi Gong forms, visualization techniques for Qi guidance
  • Effect & areas of application: e.g. Qi Gong for stress, exhaustion, sleep problems, immune system, circulation, strengthening digestion, emotional balance, mental strength
