What does a job coach for autistic people need to know?
As a job coach for people with autism, you need to know the following:
- know what autism is from a medical point of view
- Know possible comorbidities
- know the suffering of affected children, adolescents and adults
- know what special features to look out for when dealing with affected persons as an employer/as a coach etc.
- can adequately support an affected person on his/her path, with school/educational issues
- know how an autism coaching process is structured and can put it into practice
- know what options are available to finance autism coaching (note: autism is relevant to IV)
- know the basics of coaching, counseling
- can move in their role as coach/consultant, including their boundaries
- know the framework conditions of a coaching conversation
- know the process of a solution-oriented discussion and can conduct such a discussion
- know how they can adequately support and accompany an affected person in relation to their work
- have effective tools for use in coaching/dealing with a person concerned
