What does a sommelier do?
The term sommelier refers to a wine waiter who is responsible for much more than "just" the wine repertoire of a hotel, restaurant or wine bar, for example. In addition to purchasing wine and managing the wine cellar, he also designs the wine list, recommends suitable wines for the respective menus or is responsible for providing guests with personal, expert advice and wine service. He therefore has a responsible, central function for the quality of life and well-being of the guests, which can be decisive for the success of a company.
For this, he must not only have an excellent sense of taste, but also knowledge of food preparation, which also emphasizes his teamwork skills. Furthermore, he has the necessary sensitivity, is polite, friendly, free of any arrogance and convinces with a pronounced empathy to give the guests a feeling of being looked after and well looked after.
In addition to the classic wine sommeliers, there are now also sommeliers for whiskey, beer, coffee and cigars.
