Building biologists are experts in all aspects of healthy and environmentally conscious building and living, providing both information and specific, practical advice. The building biologist checks the building concepts for environmental compatibility, makes any necessary changes and discusses these with construction companies and architects. They address factors such as ventilation, indoor toxins, thermal insulation, electrosmog, moisture, energy savings and allergies and advise the contractors on suitable building materials that can be recycled and do not contain any toxic, harmful or environmentally damaging substances or emissions. In order to carry out this work, specialists in building biology must not only have in-depth knowledge of biology and ecology, but also legal and technical knowledge of the construction industry. This combination makes the profession of building biologist very varied and interesting.
