What do I learn on a nutrition coaching course?
The range of content in a nutrition coaching course can be very wide and varies greatly depending on the school, target group and degree.
The following is simply an insight into which topics are often covered in such a course:
- Basics of nutrition (e.g. macronutrients: carbohydrates, proteins, fats, micronutrients: vitamins, minerals, trace elements, water and electrolyte balance, nutrient requirements in different phases of life)
- Digestion & metabolism (including anatomy & function of the digestive system, energy production & metabolic processes, blood sugar regulation, insulin action, gut health & microbiome)
- Forms of nutrition & diets (e.g. Mediterranean, vegetarian, vegan, ketogenic diet, low carb, intermittent fasting, paleo etc., assessment of nutrition trends)
- Counseling & coaching (e.g. conducting conversations, motivation & goal work, creating individual nutrition plans)
- Nutrition for special target groups (e.g. athletes, children and young people, pregnant and breastfeeding women, older people, people who are overweight or have food intolerances)
- Prevention & health promotion (e.g. connection between nutrition, exercise and psyche)
- Law & Practice
