What are the team building phases?

There are 4 phases of team building:

  • Orientation phase (forming)
    • Ensuring safety and orientation
    • Clear instructions and distribution of tasks
    • Checking the progress of each individual
  • Confrontation phase (Storming)
    • Maintain motivation
    • Allow confrontation, but prevent attacks on a personal level
    • Use different communication techniques and solve problems
  • Regulation phase (norming)
    • Transferring important tasks
    • Being in constant communication with the team (meetings)
    • Make successes visible to provide additional motivation
  • Performance phase (Performing)
    • Be open to innovation
    • Withdraw and trust the team
    • Allow every team member to contribute
    • Promote continuous communication
