Can I bill health insurance companies directly for reflexology therapy?
Many insurance companies reimburse their patients for the therapy costs (minus the deductible), provided they have taken out the appropriate supplementary insurance. However, this is subject to the condition that the reflexology therapy is carried out in accordance with the guidelines of a recognized therapist, such as the EMR, the Empirical Medicine Register. In order to become such a recognized therapist, the training must also comply with the EMR criteria, which specify the number of hours of training in experiential medicine (EM) and conventional medicine (SM). This is currently 500 hours of EM and 350 hours of SM for reflexology therapy.
