Gibt es einen Unterschied zwischen Portugiesisch und Brasilianisch?
Is there a difference between Portuguese and Brazilian?
Although Portuguese is spoken in Brazil and Portugal, a distinction is made between European/African Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese. Both language variants have the same origin, but they have diverged considerably since the 18th century. In principle, Brazilians understand Portuguese and vice versa, but the two languages are sometimes very different in terms of pronunciation, spelling and grammar. It therefore makes sense for you to think carefully about the purposes for which you want to learn Portuguese and which language variant best suits these purposes. If you are primarily learning the language to travel through Brazil or to negotiate with Brazilian business partners, it is worth attending a Brazilian Portuguese or Brazilian language course. If, on the other hand, you want to study in Lisbon or be able to communicate better with your Portuguese landlord, choose a conventional Portuguese course.
