What is a grammar school?

The grammar school is a public or privategeneral school at upper secondary level.It prepares students for the Matura examinations and concludes with thegymnasiale Maturadegree. This qualification is federally recognized and certifies a broad general education and general university entrance qualification.

Graduate from grammar schoolChildren and young peoplewith very good academic performance, either as a long-term grammar school (following elementary school) or a short-term grammar school (from the end of lower secondary level).

The grammar school can alsoAdultsafter compulsory schooling attend so-calledMatura schools for adults. These are special courses with various part-time and self-study models that can be attended alongside work and prepare students for the Federal Matura.

The Matura also enables examination-free access to many foreign universities and colleges.
