Wage increase after completion of the "Insurance Specialist (BP)" course

The professional examination to become an insurance specialist provides you with in-depth specialist knowledge and skills. This qualifies you to carry out more responsible tasks independently and to take on your first management tasks. Obtaining a federal certificate therefore increases your chances of a salary increase.

The salary or salary development depends on various factors, such as the industry, region, size of the company, professional experience, previous education and age. In terms of salary, another decisive factor is whether the degree leads to a new position and function in the previous company or another company.

You can calculate your personal salary prospects in employment with "Salarium", the federal government's salary calculator. We have calculated a possible case to illustrate this. It is intended as an example and shows the statistical average.

Calculation of the possible salary increase with the acquisition of the federal insurance specialist certificate

Mirjam graduated from high school in Bern with a federal baccalaureate. As she didn't yet know what she wanted to study, she started working in customer support for a large Swiss insurance company with over 1000 employees. Here she carried out administrative tasks such as receiving mail and answering the phone for customer inquiries of all kinds. After a year, at the age of 20, she was earning CHF 4098 a month.

After this year, Mirjam was still undecided as to whether she wanted to study at a university - she liked her work at the insurance company too much and so time flew by and she has now worked at the insurance company for a total of three years. Based on the customer inquiries, she was particularly interested in insurance advice. Mirjam's boss suggested that she take the step of insurance brokerage and aim for the professional examination to become an insurance specialist with a specialization in "Sales and Support", which would allow her to obtain a federal qualification in the foreseeable future. So Mirjam quickly completed the 14-day course and the "Insurance Broker VBV" exam and then the preparatory course for the federal exam. Just over three semesters later, she passed the professional examination with good marks and has been working in her new role as a customer advisor at the same insurance company ever since. Thanks to her excellent performance, she was even able to take over the management of a team of three. Her salary has risen by almost 19% to around CHF 4871 per month thanks to the acquisition of the federal certificate for insurance specialists and her more demanding tasks.
