What is the training content of the Marketing and Sales Clerk apprenticeship?

Learning content

The extra-occupational certificate courses for marketing and sales clerks prepare you optimally for the diverse assistant activities in marketing and sales.
Schools that offer the certificate course with the school's own certificate degree can determine their own learning content. There may therefore be (major) differences from provider to provider.

Schools that offer the certificate course in marketing and sales as preparation for the external edupool certificate examination must adhere to the minimum number of lessons (at least 160 lessons in total) and content specified by the sponsoring body, which are then also tested in the examination. These are set out in the official course description. These are the following subject areas:

  • Marketing (basics, market research, content and structure of a marketing concept, marketing mix)
  • Product and pricing design (learning objectives, cost accounting and calculation, product and pricing design)
  • Marketing and corporate communication (basics, advertising, direct marketing, public relations and sponsoring, event management, sales promotion, online and mobile marketing)
  • Sales and distribution (basics, primary and secondary sales planning, sales pitch and negotiation techniques, trade fair marketing, distribution)
  • Project and self-management (project management, communication and presentation techniques, self-management and methodological skills)

The content is taught with a high degree of practical relevance so that what has been learned can be put into practice straight away.

Note: If the school of your choice is one of the edupool-accredited schools, the edupool examination is usually carried out there.

Knowledge, competencies and skills

Graduates of the Marketing and Sales Clerk further training course are characterized by their customer and market-oriented thinking. They are able to recognize marketing and sales activities and carry them out in a networked and holistic manner. Marketing and sales clerks not only know about the common methods and instruments in marketing and sales, but can also apply them appropriately to the situation. With these competencies and skills, they can act professionally in their field of work and pursue their work dossier independently. They are therefore an important support for supervisors.
