New leadership is a modern management style for employees that aims for flat hierarchies and is not about delegating within rigid structures, but rather about training and promoting personal responsibility. A manager is therefore no longer the classic person who gives orders, but has instead become an accompanying coach.
New Leadership is part of a series of other modern leadership terms that attempt to meet the requirements of the new digital working world or Work 4.0. These include agile leadership, digital leadership and shared leadership, for example. The concepts behind these methods are not mutually exclusive, but rather can complement each other.
A leader in the sense of New Leadership knows how to motivate their employees for their work. Such intrinsic motivation is valuable when employees are motivated by the work itself and do not need an external incentive.
New Leadership also aims to ensure that managers and employees meet on an equal footing. However, this also means that managers have to relinquish some of their control and power - this is replaced by an increased relationship of trust with employees, for example that they will act and make decisions in the interests of the company.
