The Purchasing Specialist course is aimed at people who work in procurement, purchasing, materials management or logistics and would like to acquire a solid knowledge base.

The future procurement specialist is able to understand the main procurement processes and can apply the specialist knowledge gained in a targeted manner in professional life. In addition to the business and organizational basics of procurement, he/she will gain knowledge of legal aspects, which will enable him/her to understand the legal framework and apply it in professional practice. Active procurement market research and strategy and efficient supplier management are important topics in the classroom. The course activates and develops practical and social skills. Methodological and didactic knowledge of negotiation and discussion techniques is taught in the course and applied in class in the context of case and role plays. Active presence and cooperation in procurement is encouraged in projects.

The course is aimed at employees from the fields of industry, trade and services. The course is aimed at people working in procurement, purchasing and materials management or logistics, e.g. purchasing planners, junior buyers and purchasing assistants, as well as career changers from other areas of the company such as sales or production who are expanding their activities into purchasing or switching to it.

Course content

Basic knowledge of procurement, basic knowledge of business administration, procurement process management, contract law, price analysis, price analysis, procurement strategies, supplier management, discussion techniques, purchasing in projects.

Purchasing specialist qualification

The course forms the basis for the federal professional examination "Purchasing Specialist" (BP) conducted by the SVME under federal supervision.

Graduates of the advanced training course for purchasing specialists with a federal certificate are able to carry out operational procurement processes derived from the procurement strategy. They have the necessary expertise to analyze and optimize internal process chains as well as the entire procurement process. They review risks and cost structures along the process chains and are able to develop and implement improvement measures. Regular supplier evaluations, independent negotiation with internal and external partners and methodical research of procurement markets round off the skills profile of procurement specialists.

The following admission criteria apply to the professional examination following the Purchasing Specialist with Federal Certificate of Competence:

  • a federal certificate of proficiency, high school diploma (all types) or equivalent qualification and 3 years of professional experience in purchasing, procurement, materials management or logistics
  • or a professional certificate and 5 years of professional experience in purchasing, procurement, materials management or logistics
  • or a federal certificate in the field of materials management, purchasing, procurement or logistics

Holders of the title "Purchasing Specialist with Federal Certificate of Competence" who are planning the next step in their career and aspire to a leading position in the purchasing industry can attend the course "Higher Professional Examination for Purchasing Managers with Federal Diploma".
