Please introduce yourself briefly, tell us about your career and current job.

My name is Samanta Aebischer. I started my apprenticeship at Coop in the meat department in 2011. I've still been working at Coop ever since. I then trained to become the area manager of the checkout. Today, I work at Coop Bümpliz as the second deputy store manager, the area manager of the checkout, I manage the office, supervise apprentices and am responsible for the shift plans.

Which courses did you complete at bsd. Bern?

I am currently completing the bsd. Bern on the retail trade specialist course. Before that, I had already completed my retail trade apprenticeship at the school.

Why take the retail specialist course?

I want to continue my education and later take over the management of a Coop store as a retail specialist with a federal certificate.

Why did you choose the school bsd. Bern?

I chose bsd. Bern as the school for the retail trade specialist course because I had already completed my apprenticeship as an EFZ retail trade specialist here. I've always been really happy with the school. The organization works perfectly and I feel very comfortable here.

How does the retail specialist course support your professional activity and your life?

The retail specialist course helps me a lot in my day-to-day work to better understand the background and recognize the connections. Before, I often lacked the theoretical background to what was going on. I therefore find it exciting to combine the newly acquired theory with the practical experience. Ultimately, however, my goal remains to obtain the federal certificate as a retail specialist. In my private life, further training usually helps me to gain more prestige.

Can you put what you have learned in theory into practice?

I can put the theory from the retail specialist training course into practice well. However, it depends on which subjects are feasible in the current field of activity. In my case, for example, I learned a lot about customer behavior and how advertising can be used effectively in marketing. The effective implementation in the store is then particularly exciting.

What learning content do you particularly like so far?

The sales and marketing module from the retail specialist course helps me a lot. Accounting also offers very exciting content. However, I can't implement it directly at the moment. That runs more in the background for us and I can't influence it.

How much time do you spend on preparation and follow-up work in addition to lessons?

Until recently, I worked 100% alongside my further training as a retail specialist. But that was too much for me. It takes up a lot of time in addition to the classroom teaching. I'm also someone who has to study and read a lot. I have now reduced my workload to 80%. This means I can invest 2 - 2.5 days a week in the retail specialist course alongside my schooling.

How have you organized yourself in terms of combining work, private life and further education?

It is very important to become aware of how you want to organize your professional and private time during the retail trade specialist course. It is certainly important to define learning windows. But free time and time for hobbies should also be consciously planned. Of course, the work during the retail specialist training course also takes up a lot of time. However, if you think carefully in advance about how you want to organize and divide up everything, you will have more time for all areas in the end. A concrete plan, which should of course be adhered to, makes sense and was very helpful, at least for me.

What is your favorite part of the retail specialist course?

I think group work on the retail specialist course is extremely cool. You can exchange ideas and hear from the others about how things work there. That's really interesting for me. "That's what the Bernese say!".

When do you like the least in class?

I'm not someone who likes to study alone. That's why individual work is what I personally like least during my training as a retail specialist. Fortunately, however, this rarely happens. The group work on the retail specialist course is more ideal for me. There is a lot of discussion and topics are worked on in the group. That suits me better.

To whom would you recommend further training as a retail specialist?

I recommend the Retail Specialist course to anyone who wants to progress and learn something new. Whether younger or older. With this further training, you are doing something for yourself or for the business.

Who would you not recommend the course to?

The retail trade specialist course is certainly not suitable for people who go to work in the morning, make little effort there and go home again in the evening to enjoy their private life. The retail trade specialist course is for committed people who want to move the world and get ahead.

What was the atmosphere like during the course?

The atmosphere in the retail specialist training program is very cool. It can't be compared with the atmosphere during the apprenticeship back then. It's now an adult training course, so there's a relaxed atmosphere and that leads to good discussions. Everyone learns from each other.

What is your experience of teaching and working with lecturers and fellow students?

I find the lessons on the retail specialist course very varied. There's something different every week. Even though the same people are always in the class, we can learn a lot from each other. The lecturers during the retail specialist course are very competent and you get all the information you need. If you have any questions, you are in good hands at bsd. Bern is a good place to ask questions. Lecturers can usually be contacted at any time to get a quick answer to urgent questions. If they don't know something, they will find it out for you.

What do you like best about the school bsd. Bern the best?

What I particularly like about the bsd. Bern school, I particularly like the old building. I think it exudes an atmosphere like at home in the parlor. It's just as cozy here. These are good prerequisites for my further training as a retail specialist.
