CHE studies in the field of energy management can lead, for example, to a diploma in energy efficiency. This training takes place as a day or evening course and enables students to continue their professional career, if possible on a reduced scale. The CHE course includes basic subjects such as mathematics, physics, thermodynamics and computer science, topics relating to the supply and disposal industry such as electricity, gas and heat supply, production, grids and energy transport, resources and waste management as well as water and wastewater management. The subjects of building technology, energy storage, prosumer technology, digital technology, smart technologies and application technologies provide content on energy systems. Other subjects include procurement and disposal, energy efficiency, mobility, energy and CO2 balancing in the field of energy processes and energy concepts as well as general education subjects.

Depending on the focus of the postgraduate course in energy management, students are required to have different prior knowledge and qualifications. For example, the postgraduate studies CHE in Energy Management (NDS CHE Bau-Energie-Umwelt) is aimed at CHE graduates in the fields of heating, ventilation, sanitary and air conditioning technology or civil engineering or structural engineering or construction management or mechanical engineering or electrical engineering or building services coordination. Persons without a CHE degree can also be admitted to the course after an aptitude test.
