Is an autogenic training course recognized?

Yes, an autogenic training course can be recognized, depending on the provider and degree.

The recognition of an autogenic training course depends on the scope of training, learning content and quality standards. Many courses are based on recognized guidelines from the health and further education sector. The following are important:

  • Clearly defined learning objectives
  • Sufficient practical experience
  • Qualified lecturers

Autogenic training is often used in a preventative or complementary context. However, it does not replace medical or psychotherapeutic training.

The Swiss Society for Autogenic Training (SAT), like the Empirical Medicine Register (EMR), has very specific requirements for methods in the field of complementary medicine. In particular, a certain number of hours must be demonstrated in order to be able to apply for registration of the method after the autogenic training course. In the case of the EMR, this is 150 hours for both experiential medicine and conventional medicine. Such registration is often necessary in order to be able to bill the supplementary health insurance companies.
