How is a HERMES certificate obtained?

In order to obtain a HERMES certificate, an official HERMES 5 exam must be passed. This examination can be taken in two ways, depending on the provider and personal preference:

  1. Online exam
    After registering for the course, you will receive a personal link from TÜV Süd to register for the online exam.

    • The examination date can be chosen individually.
    • TÜV usually offers several time slots during the week after the end of the course.
    • The test is monitored electronically and can be carried out conveniently from home or from the
    • can be completed from the workplace.
  2. Onsite inspection (on site)
    Alternatively, you can take the HERMES exam at an examination center on fixed dates.
    • This variant is done classically on paper.
    • Examination venues are offered in larger Swiss cities such as Zurich, Bern or Basel.
    • Registration also takes place via TÜV Süd or the respective course provider.

After completing the test, you will immediately see in the system whether you have passed or failed. However, the final decision on the award of the certificate is only made after a formal review by TÜV. The official HERMES certificate will then be sent to you by e-mail.


Exam duration and contents:

  • HERMES Foundation Level: 60 minutes, 40 multiple-choice questions
  • HERMES Advanced Level: 2 × 60 minutes
    • Part 1: 30 theoretical multiple-choice questions
    • Part 2: 15 practice-oriented multiple-choice questions on a case study

The exams are based on the contents of the current HERMES 5 project management standard, which is the official method for projects in administration and business in Switzerland.
