How far in advance should an SME succession be planned?
The majority of SME entrepreneurs start planning an SME succession too late, as the actual duration of a succession plan is usually underestimated. The SME portal of the Swiss Confederation recommends starting to think about a possible succession solution from the age of 50. The planning phase should begin at least seven years in advance, preferably ten years, in order to regulate all aspects of the handover and find a suitable successor.
