How much will I earn during my training in Switzerland?

The amount of the apprenticeship wage is not uniformly regulated. Wages can vary greatly depending on the industry, occupational field, place of work and size of the training company. There is no regulation for a minimum wage during the apprenticeship, but most companies adhere to the wage recommendations of the professional associations, which revise them regularly. In principle, the amount of the apprentice's wage is negotiated between the company and the apprentice and is set out in the apprenticeship contract. As examples, here are some wage recommendations from the relevant professional associations for the first year of apprenticeship (as of August 2014):
  • Federal VET Diploma plant operator: CHF 500
  • Automotive specialist Federal VET Diploma: CHF 600
  • Federal VET Diploma bookseller: CHF 765
  • Hairdresser / hairdresser Federal VET Diploma: 400 CHF
  • Federal VET Diploma electronics technician: CHF 600
  • Federal VET Diploma care specialist: CHF 750
  • Federal VET Diploma commercial clerk: CHF 770
  • High / Cook EZF: 1020 CHF
  • Federal VET Diploma bricklayer: CHF 825
  • Pharmaceutical assistant Federal VET Diploma: CHF 500
  • Polymechanic Federal VET Diploma: 550-600 CHF
