The wages of a childcare worker can vary greatly depending on the level of training, place of work, years of service, age, continuing education, further training, position and gender. The average starting salary after an apprenticeship as a Federal VET Diploma childcare specialist in a childcare facility, such as a daycare center, is CHF 4328 for men for facilities with fewer than 20 employees and CHF 4696 for facilities with more than 20 employees. This means that half of the employees with a Federal VET Diploma earn more and the other half less than this average wage. For people with a College of Higher Education (CHE) qualification, the average salary is around CHF 1,500 to CHF 2,000 higher than the salary of people with a Federal VET Diploma qualification, depending on the function and number of employees.
