How should I proceed when deciding on an apprenticeship?
If you have not yet decided on an apprenticeship, it is important that you give yourself enough time to choose and start looking for a suitable apprenticeship early on. Always inform yourself sufficiently, talk to other people about their professions and ask yourself which activities you might enjoy, in which environment you would like to work and how important various criteria, such as regular working hours, are to you. This is how you should proceed:
- Clarify what strengths, skills and interests you have
- Find out about all possible training courses
- Compare the requirements of the professions with your skills and interests
- Find out in detail about the professions that interest you
- Do several trial apprenticeships in any sector that interests you
- Talk to employees about the professions during the trial apprenticeships
- Don't attach too much importance to the salary you receive during your training
- Consider whether a secondary school might not be a better idea after all
- Compare all possible professions and make a well-considered decision
