How is the timber construction foreman exam structured?
The 2007 examination regulations of the Swiss Timber Construction Association define the content, structure and procedure of the examination for foreman in timber construction, which includes the following examination subjects: Basics of communication, technical calculation, materials, statics and construction with an examination duration of approx. 4 hours, company organization with company management, measurement and report of approx. 2 hours, preparation with work planning, work preparation and space and structure of approx. 4 hours, production with work technology of approx. 1 hour and assembly with the examination subject construction management of approx. 1 hour duration. This results in a total examination duration of around 12 hours, spread over two days. The marks are weighted 2-2-2-1-1, in the order of the main subjects listed above. The final grade in wood technology is made up of the average weighting of the main subjects and must have a grade of 4.0 or higher to pass the examination (grading 6 to 1). In addition, no major subject may be graded below 3.0 and no more than 2 major subjects may be graded below 4.0.
