Two HF training courses are currently offered in air traffic, for prospective qualified air traffic controllers HF and qualified air traffic control specialists HF. The latter lasts two years and includes an initial four-month basic theoretical training course at the skyguide training center in Dübendorf. This covers all aspects of air traffic control, aviation, flight plan processing, technical English and the aeronautical information service. This is followed by practical training in the flight planning service and helpdesk, where students learn how to receive, process and distribute flight plans and how to handle and apply operating procedures and systems. Other operational aspects are also familiarized with during this time. The trainees then decide on a focus, which applies from the second year of training, either ATM (preparation of flight plan data and control of traffic flow) or AIM (provision of aviation-related data). Writing a diploma thesis in aviation and passing the examination leads to the title of "qualified air traffic control specialist HF".
