How do art therapists work after training in art therapy?

Art therapists work as follows after training in art therapy:

  • mostly according to a doctor's prescription
  • integrate medical diagnoses as well as their own observations and findings
  • look at people holistically
  • take social, physical and psychological aspects into account
  • work alone or in multi-professional teams
  • work in their own practice, in group practices or as employees in health and social care facilities or in curative education, educational, social and cultural institutions, e.g. in schools, clinics, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, retirement homes, palliative care centers, prisons, etc.

Depending on their specialization, they work with different artistic means, e.g:

  • expand the movement possibilities in movement and dance therapy
  • enable those affected to express themselves playfully and discover their own resources in drama and speech therapy
  • animate in the design and painting therapy for artistic design
  • use different artistic means (poetry, dance, music, theater, etc.) in intermedia art therapy and reflect on the work created with those affected
  • stimulate those affected emotionally and creatively through playful experiences in music therapy, thus enabling them to build relationships
