What prior knowledge do I need for a French course?
You do not need any knowledge of French to attend a French course for beginners. These courses are usually called A1 or A1 1/3 and are intended as the lowest level for people who have never spoken French before, who only speak fragments of French or who attended a course a long time ago. So if you don't understand more than Oui and Merci, an A1 course will be ideal for you. For all further language courses, you should be able to demonstrate language skills. Either by completing a previous course or by taking a short placement test, which is offered free of charge by most language schools. In this way, you can quickly find the French course that corresponds to your language level.
