What further training opportunities does a healthcare assistant have?
After completing your basic training, i.e. an apprenticeship, to become a Federal VET Diploma healthcare specialist, you should first gain a few years of professional experience in order to gain routine and confidence on the one hand and, on the other, to identify the specialist area in which you would like to develop further. As a healthcare assistant, you will then have access to a large number of interesting continuing education, further training courses, which you can complete either at a technical college, a College of Higher Education or a University of Applied Sciences. For example, you can study for a Bachelor of Science (UAS) in nursing, social work, physiotherapy, dietetics and nutrition, midwifery or occupational therapy. If you are not aiming for a university degree, you can complete a diploma course at a College of Higher Education, for example to become a certified specialist in medical-technical radiology CHE, or a certified nursing specialist CHE. If you would prefer to complete a less extensive, but also federally recognized, continuing education, further training, you can advance your professional career with Federal Professional Examination (FPE). The following continuing education, further training is possible as a healthcare assistant (FaGe):
- Specialist in neurophysiological diagnostics with a federal specialist certificate
- Medical coder with federal certificate
- Consultant for respiratory disabilities and tuberculosis with a federal specialist certificate
- Medical masseur with federal specialist certificate
- Transport paramedic with federal certificate
