What types of classical massage (Swedish massage) training do massage schools offer?
The classical massage training according to EMR method 102 consists of five modules:
- Basic course M1 - 35 hours
- Shoulder, cervical spine, upper extremities M2 - 28 hours
- Lumbar spine, pelvis, lower extremities M3 - 28 hours
- Sports massage, sports injuries M4 - 28 hours
- Treatments for musculoskeletal disorders M5 - 35 hours
These modules can be attended individually or consecutively. They teach the classic massage technique (also known as the Swedish massage technique). To register with the EMR (Empirical Medical Register), massage therapists also require 150 hours of basic medical training. This is usually included in an annual classical massage training course.

- Medical masseur (Federal Professional Examination)
