What are the requirements for air traffic controller trainees?

Training to become an air traffic controller or qualified air traffic controller requires participants to have a high degree of mental resilience, the ability to work in a team, a sense of responsibility, reliability, the ability to think logically and the ability to multi-task. In addition, good English language skills at level B2 or better and C1 language skills in German, French or Italian are required, as well as an age between 18 and 30 years at the start of training. Only Swiss citizens are accepted for military training, for civilian training also persons with a C residence permit or citizens from EU-25 / EFTA countries. A high school diploma or a vocational apprenticeship with a Federal VET Diploma are considered mandatory educational or professional requirements; for applicants from Germany, a general higher education entrance qualification is required. Medical and other tests are carried out in a three-stage selection process in order to filter out the most suitable candidates for this course.
