WebRTC test: How does a WebRTC leak test work?

If you do not use a VPN, some private information will be passed on to third parties; measures can be taken to hide the IP address. If you use a VPN and a leak tool (DNS leak test, IP check) indicates a leak, you can carry out the following test procedure:

  • Disconnect VPN and open page in new tab or window
  • Publicly note down IP addresses that you can see
  • Close page
  • Connect with VPN and reopen page
  • There is a data protection leak if you still see one of the public IP addresses.
