What do you do as a civil engineer?

A civil engineer is responsible for the planning, construction and operation of buildings. Their work includes design, calculation, construction, organization and administration. There are various sub-areas, such as structural and civil engineering, traffic route construction or water and environment. They are also responsible for conversions, renovations and maintenance work on existing buildings. A civil engineer has the following tasks:

  • accompany a building from the idea through planning to acceptance
  • take care of building permit procedures and construction tenders
  • Manage or accompany construction execution
  • Building accounts
  • Represent projects to the client - verbally, in writing and visually

Civil engineers work in companies in the construction industry in planning, execution and management. Employment with public authorities, banks, insurance companies or transport companies is also common.
