What exactly does a veterinary practice assistant do?

A veterinary practice assistant (TPA) works in small or large animal practices, equine practices, pet shops, laboratories, veterinary hospitals or even pharmaceutical companies. In veterinary practices, they work at reception, take calls, make appointments, admit patients and prepare them for treatment. Practice assistants are responsible for cleaning, disinfecting and preparing equipment and instruments, preparing X-ray examinations, taking urine and blood samples and developing X-ray images. They disinfect wounds, care for patients, monitor anesthesia during operations, carry out laboratory tests, evaluate test results and are responsible for the cleanliness of the practice rooms, as well as for administration.
