What do I learn as a health professional at school?
The school-based training to become a Federal VET Diploma healthcare specialist is based on the current curriculum for vocational education and training (VET). The lessons are divided into 14 areas of competence, which comprise between 20 and 360 lessons. These provide the technical and methodological knowledge required in the day-to-day work of a healthcare specialist.
The following topics are covered in the school-based part of the healthcare specialist training:
- Aligning professional actions with the needs of clients and their environment (80 lessons)
- Ensuring hygiene and safety (40 lessons)
- Planning and implementing care and support (360 lessons)
- Performing medical procedures correctly (100 lessons)
- Recognize crises and emergency situations and act appropriately (40 lessons)
- Promoting resource conservation and prevention (80 lessons)
- Supporting everyday life (60 lessons)
- Designing nutrition according to needs (80 lessons)
- Proper care of clothing and laundry (40 lessons)
- Organize household management efficiently (40 lessons)
- Completing administrative tasks (20 lessons)
- Understanding and applying logistics processes (40 lessons)
- Planning and reflecting on work organization (20 lessons)
- Developing your role as a learner or professional (40 lessons)
This is supplemented by inter-company courses. These promote the link between theory and practice. The curriculum also includes general education classes as well as gymnastics and sport.
These specialist areas not only impart theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills for dealing with people in different life situations. The content of the Federal VET Diploma in Healthcare is wide-ranging and promotes a holistic understanding of nursing, care and health promotion.
