What is the difference between a CAS and an MAS at a University of Applied Sciences for Facility Management?
If you do not want to study Facility Management at a University of Applied Sciences as a Bachelor's or Master's degree, but would like to acquire specific knowledge with a continuing education course such as a CAS, DAS or MAS, you can choose from a wide range of courses. An MAS, a Master of Advanced Studies, is a comprehensive continuing education course that enjoys national and international recognition and is aimed at people with a university degree or comparable training and several years of professional experience in the selected field. Depending on the MAS chosen, this could be architects, facility managers, hospitality managers, service managers, consultants or various other specialists. Such a postgraduate course requires the acquisition of at least 60 ECTS credits, which can often take several years. To earn these credits, you must attend individual CAS, Certificate of Advanced Studies, continuing education courses, which usually earn 10 to 15 ECTS credits, as well as a Master's thesis. However, CASs can also be attended individually and independently of an MAS and are particularly suitable for specialists and managers who do not want to be taught facility management as a whole at a University of Applied Sciences, but only in a specialist area, such as facility management or strategic facility management.
