Was ist der Unterschied zwischen Konservierung und Restauration?

What is the difference between conservation and restoration?

Restoration specialists deal with both conservation and restoration measures for a wide variety of art and cultural assets. If extensive damage prevention comes too late or does not bear fruit, conservation is used to care for and stabilize an object in such a way that deterioration is delayed if possible or does not occur at all. Restoration, on the other hand, involves restoring and stabilizing objects as they were in their original form. In contrast to conservation, this intervention is usually irreversible and involves, for example, restoring a broken antique vase, retouching paintings or working on a missing part of a historical textile. The aim is not to preserve the object, but to achieve an improvement in understanding, appearance or clarity through targeted restoration that is as minimal as possible so as not to distort the character of the object.
