A certificate course in patient education or patient coaching focuses on individual advice and support for people with serious chronic or acute illnesses. The aim of such a course is to establish a relationship of trust between doctor or nurse and patient, which enables solution-oriented discussions to be conducted emphatically and patient skills to be promoted in a targeted manner. To this end, the course develops skills for recognizing specific reactions to an illness, as well as promoting personal responsibility and developing an individual intervention repertoire for a wide range of process support. In continuing education, further training also teaches participants how to identify patients' resources and how to recognize when triage to other professionals is necessary.
