Palliative medicine is a sub-discipline of palliative care and is subdivided into general and specialized palliative medicine. All healthcare professionals work in general palliative medicine, but only specialists who are responsible for the treatment of palliative patients on the basis of their acquired skills work in a specialized form. They are also responsible for advising teams and specialists in general palliative medicine and can come from a wide range of medical specialties.
