Wann ist Nachhilfe in Mathematik sinnvoll?

When is tutoring in math useful?

Tutoring in math or any other subject is no longer a rarity for many children and young people these days.

Over 30 percent of all young people in Switzerland take private tuition, particularly in the higher grades that prepare them for graduation or the transition to grammar school. The aim is to increase their chances of admission to grammar school or improve their grades for an apprenticeship application and to do so as effectively as possible. Unfortunately, it is often overlooked that it does not make sense for every child or young person to focus exclusively on private tuition.

Not every child needs extra tuition; many simply lack motivation or the right learning technique. It is therefore important for parents to recognize where their daughter or son is lacking.
Are the poor grades due to the child not understanding the learning content or do they simply need more practice? Do they not have enough time to study at home due to their busy schedule or are they simply too lazy? Do they understand the school material in principle, but simply can't memorize it?

Depending on where the problem lies, other types of tutoring or support can be considered, which are only successful if they are actually tailored to the student's current situation and (learning) personality.
It is therefore best to clarify this point before looking for a suitable tutor for mathematics.

Private lessons in math, which explicitly address content or procedures that have not been understood and help the young person to work through the subject matter, are a very useful thing for many, but should only be attended for a short period of time. Regular lessons over a longer period of time may make more sense for children who are not very good at math and lack basic understanding. However, it should always be noted that success can only be achieved if the pupil also sees an advantage in it.
Children or young people who show no motivation to learn alongside their school lessons or who are under too much pressure to perform will not be able to make any significant progress, even with the best tutoring in mathematics.
