Passerelle failure rate: How many successfully complete the Passerelle?
In order to successfully complete the Passerelle, you need to be very well prepared. In most cases, a large part of the course must be completed through self-study, which requires a high level of discipline and self-organization - far more than during school or during the apprenticeship. The Passerelle requires a lot of perseverance and a good learning concept. In most cases, targeted tutoring in individual subjects is also required to avoid falling victim to the Passerelle failure rate. The passerelle failure rate is quite high at 40 percent throughout Switzerland. This shows that this educational pathway is not a slimmed-down grammar school or a shortcut to studying at a Universities. It therefore takes diligence, self-management and perseverance to successfully complete the Passerelle. If you are working full-time, it is also advisable to complete the Baccalaureate via the second-chance route. However, this takes three to four years - significantly longer than the Passerelle course. On the other hand, you have more time to absorb the comprehensive knowledge that is also taught in four to six years at a grammar school. The statistics also reveal that only 6 percent of first-year students at a university do not have a Baccalaureate - i.e. a passerelles certificate. This means that not too many choose this route and successfully complete it despite the high pass rate.
