Passerelle Meaning: What does passerelle mean and where is it incorporated into the Swiss Education System?

Passerelle means a path that connects two things. In the Swiss Education System, it refers to a pathway from vocational education and training with a Federal Vocational Baccalaureate or general education schools with a Specialized Baccalaureate to the Universities of Teacher Education or Universities of Applied Sciences. This means that students can complete a Bachelor's degree at a Universities even though they do not have a Baccalaureate. The direct route is usually only possible with a baccalaureate from a grammar school. All others only have the option of studying at a University of Applied Sciences. This ensures that all educational pathways are open to everyone after vocational education and training (VET) in accordance with the educational principle of "no degree without a connection". The "Passerelle Bedeutung" means that anyone can later become a doctor or teacher (especially vocational school teachers) regardless of their first basic education if they successfully complete the Federal Vocational Baccalaureate or Federal Vocational Baccalaureate and Passerelle. Universities offer degree courses in the humanities and social sciences, natural sciences, law, business and medicine. Universities of Teacher Education, on the other hand, prepare students for a teaching profession. The importance of the passerelle is to enable all those who wish to pursue this path and are prepared to meet the requirements to do so.
