This is because two major factors are decisive for mobile phone reception: the distance to the nearest transmitter mast and the number or material of obstacles in the way of the signal. A mobile phone repeater picks up the signal, amplifies it and then transmits it again. This serves to improve mobile phone reception, especially in closed rooms - so it can also be used to strengthen the mobile phone network in the home.
