Kann ich nach einer Ausbildung in Alternative Medizin direkt als Therapeut arbeiten?

Can I work directly as a therapist after training in alternative medicine?

In principle, nothing stands in the way of this, but you should bear a few things in mind. Firstly, the training courses vary greatly from one another, both in terms of content and scope. In a short weekend seminar in aromatherapy, you will obviously not learn as much as in a course that extends over 12 weekends. In the former case, you will gain an insight into the subject of alternative medicine and have the opportunity to identify preferences and gain initial experience that you can apply in your private life. However, such a seminar cannot provide sufficient knowledge to enable you to work professionally with this method of complementary medicine. To do this, you need comprehensive training in order to be able to provide your patients with the best possible therapy. After all, charlatans only damage the reputation of alternative medicine.

Secondly, you should be aware that alternative medicine therapy is only covered by supplementary health insurance if the therapists are recognized by professional organizations and associations such as ASCA, EMR, SBO-TCM, Cranio Suisse or Kine Suisse. These organizations have clearly defined guidelines according to which therapists must be trained and undergo further training every year. Only those who have one of these recognitions can register their method and bill their sessions to the health insurance companies. Otherwise, patients are forced to bear the costs themselves and cannot even be sure whether the therapist is actually sufficiently trained in the desired field of alternative medicine. Therefore, think carefully in advance about how you would like to work in the future and what is important to you.
