Can I do a shortened commercial apprenticeship with a high school diploma?
It is not regulated by law that people who have a school-leaving certificate can complete a shortened apprenticeship. Nevertheless, this can certainly happen if you find a company that agrees to a shortened apprenticeship. In such a case, the apprenticeship may well be shortened by one year, as the general education schools are also omitted and you do not have to take an exam. However, a shortened apprenticeship must be discussed with the company and recorded in the apprenticeship contract. In addition, you can also complete commercial professions in a special training program called Way-up, in which you complete a two-year course that concludes with the Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training. However, this is only possible for a small, select number of training courses:
- Design engineer
- Electronics technician
- Polymechanic
- Computer scientist
- Automation technician
