• Vocational education and training (VET): forChildcare specialist ("FaBe") specializing in children
• Higher vocational training: Course at College of Higher Education (CHE) forqualified childhood teacher CHE /to thequalified childhood educators CHE(until 2021: graduate child educator CHE)

In addition to knowledge of the care and support of young children, the tasks of the manager of a daycare center also require administrative, personnel and business skills. These skills are not taught in the Federal VET Diploma childcare specialist apprenticeship.

However, you can train to become a "childcare center manager" in the area of early childhood; however, this is not a federally regulated qualification, but an association qualification.

In continuing education, further training as a childhood educator, you will also acquire leadership and management skills, but not the skills to manage an entire institution independently. This requires a further educational step: the Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE) to become a certified manager of social and socio-medical organizations.
