Kann ich meinen Sprachaufenthalt in Kanada auch mit Arbeiten verbinden?

Can I combine my language study trip to Canada with work?

If you want to work in Canada before, after or during your language course, you will need a work visa, even if you are only working for free room and board. If you want to enrich your language travel to Canada with this work experience, you have various options for doing so. For example, there is the form of Work & Travel, which requires good language skills. You work in the profession you have learned in a full-time position, which you must present before entering Canada in order to be able to apply for a work visa. This is valid for twelve months, but can be extended for a further six months. The advantage of this option is that you are not allowed to earn less money than Canadians, so you are not working for a pittance, but are paid fairly. However, people from the IT, medical, electrical, plumbing and commercial sectors are excluded and will not normally receive a work permit.

The Work & Study program, which allowed you to work alongside your studies, used to be very popular. However, this has no longer been possible in many places since June 2014, so if you are interested, please enquire with some language school providers. Other options for working while studying English or French in Canada include internships, ranch or farm stays, volunteer work or student jobs. Farm stays are usually organized between April and October and last around three months. However, it is important to know that the farms are usually located far away from the city and it is not possible for you to attend a language school. This means that you will need to take a language course either before or after your farm stay.
